Gerard Mannion

Department of Theology and Religious Studies

Gerard Mannion (1970-2019) was Joseph and Winifred Amaturo Chair in Catholic Studies in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Georgetown University and a senior research fellow at the Berkley Center for Religions, Peace, and World Affairs, where his work focused on the role of the Catholic Church in the world, on social ethics, and on ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. Together with Debora Tonelli, he worked on a project on the dynamics between religion and violence and organized two international conferences, in Trent in 2017 and in Washington, DC, in 2018, to analyze these dynamics and discuss the ways in which religion enables them to be overcome.
