Exiting Violence

The international conflicts that are disrupting political, social, and economic arrangements around the world suggest a profound link between religion and violence, but is such a link really inevitable? In the book co-edited by Debora Tonelli and Gerard Mannion, Exiting Violence: The Role of Religion (2024), the authors analyze this link and show ways in which religion can also be the path to conflict resolution. This event series builds on the book to address different aspects of this path across time.

This series assesses the state of scholarship and explores the ways in which religion can contribute to societies and communities exiting situations of violence and hatred. From biblical hermeneutics to Buddhism, from secularism to legal systems, Exiting Violence offers a nuanced and thought-provoking exploration of the multifaceted role religion plays in the human struggle for peace and justice.
