Housed at the headquarters of La Civiltà Cattolica, Georgetown University’s Representative Office in Rome supports outreach to the Vatican and other partners as well as dialogues and events that address contemporary and historical topics.

Exiting Violence: The Role of Religion (2024) by Debora Tonelli and Gerard Mannion analyzes the ways in which religion can also be the path to conflict resolution. This series explores the ways in which religion can contribute to societies and communities exiting situations of violence and hatred.

The China Forum convenes Chinese academics and public figures with international partners to discuss common challenges at the intersection of culture, ethics, and global society. The China Forum is a collaboration between Georgetown University and La Civiltà Cattolica.

Over the past decade, Georgetown has developed a strong partnership with the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies through visiting scholars and cosponsored events. A centerpiece of the partnership is the Georgetown Lecture on Contemporary Islam, inaugurated at PISAI in 2017.

Over the course of 2022, Georgetown University Representative in Rome Debora Tonelli convened a series of dialogues to discuss challenges and opportunities facing Africa more broadly in order to dispel negative stereotypes and highlight Africa’s cultural contributions on a regional and global scale.
